Profile of Justice (Retd) Muti Muhammad Taqi Usmani
Mr. Justice Mufti
Muhammad Taqi Usmani was born in 1943 in
Dewband, India. He is the son of late Maulana Mufti Muhammad Shafi (renowned Islamic Scholar of the subcontinent and author of tafseer Maariful Quran).
He obtained
his “Takhassus” degree in Islamic education (at par with Ph.D.) from Darul Uloom
Karachi, the largest and the most renowned Islamic Education institution in Pakistan.
He also obtained his master’s degree from Punjab University in Arabic literature
and a law degree (LLB) from Karachi University of Pakistan.
He has been
teaching several branches of Islamic education for more than 50 years including
Fiqh (Islamic Jurisprudence) and Hadith.
He has held
position of a Judge of Shariat Appellate Bench of Supreme Court of
Pakistan
from 1982 to May 2002. Also he is the permanent member of International Islamic
Fiqh academy, Jeddah, Jeddah, an organ of OIC where he has been Vice Chairman of
the Academy for nine years. Also he is the vice president of Darul Uloom Karachi.
For more than
a decade se has been holding the position of Chairman/Member of
Shariah Supervisory Boards of a dozen Islamic Banks and Financial
Institutions in different parts of the world that has prepared Shariah Standards
for Islamic Financial institutions. Also he is he Chairman of International Shariah
Council of Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions
in
Bahrain
.

In 2009, The Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Centre (Jordan) and The Prince Alwaleed Bin
Talal Centre (USA) have jointly published a book i.e. “The 500 Most Influential Muslims
in the World (First Edition)”. The Rank of Twenty Seven (27)
has been awarded to Justice (Retd) Mufti Muhammad Taqi Usmani
in this book (All

Profile of Dr. Mufti Muhammad Imran Ashraf Usmani
Son of justice (Retd) Mufti Muhammad Taqi Usmani holds LLB, M. Phil, and Ph. D.
in Islamic Finance and graduated as a scholar (Alimiyyah degree) and Takhassus (Specialization)
in Islamic Fiqh and fatwa from Jamia Darul-Uloom, Karachi.
From the inception of Meezan Bank (The Premier Islamic Bank of Pakistan), he is the In-house Shariah Advisor and Head of
Product Development and Shariah Compliance department of Meezan Bank, where he supervises
in-house training for the different Courses, Audit & compliance, R&D and
advisory for Shariah based banking.
Dr. Usmani has been serving as lecturer / teacher of different subjects of Shariah
and as administrator of some divisions of Jamia Darul-Uloom, Karachi since 1990
and he is visiting Faculty member of MBA / PhD department in University of Karachi
(KU) and Institute of Business Administration (IBA).
He has also been leading Friday khutbah and prayer at a Jamia Masjid for 18 years.
